While having large breasts may be a desirable trait for many women, there are those who have extremely large ones, which can prove to be the cause of many physical health issues. In short, large breasts can be very problematic. Women with large breasts often find it hard to wear their favorite clothing. Baton Rouge plastic surgeon, Dr. Theunissen helps his patients with breast reduction surgery in order to reshape the breasts to an attractive, smaller and more manageable size. During a breast reduction procedure, liposuction is used to remove excess amounts of tissue and fat, while the breasts are reshaped to look more proportional to the rest of the body. If you have noticed this problem and you feel frustrated, there’s no need to be. Dr. Theunissen will be with you every step of the way to guide you through the breast reduction procedure and ensure a full recovery.
You may be an ideal candidate for Breast Reduction with Dr. Theunissen if your breasts are
• Too big for your frame

• Causing back, neck, and/or shoulder pain due to the breast weight or size
• Causing skin problems on underside of the breasts

DURING AND AFTER SURGERY
It is extremely important to have your breast reducing surgery performed by a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon to insure all the rules and regulations, that maximize patient care and safety, are followed. This type of plastic surgery procedure usually takes around 2 to 4 hours and the patient will be advised to use a compression bra to protect the breasts for a few weeks. While it is okay for the patient to resume their work a week after the procedure, physical activities and strenuous chores should be avoided for at least 6 to 8 weeks to allow the incisions to heal properly and avoid any complications. While the patient will witness immediate results, sensation to their nipples will return gradually, and in some cases, may take up to a year.

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE?
Depending on your health and age, your surgeon will recommend a baseline mammogram before the procedure is carried out, and possibly another mammogram a few months after the breast reduction surgery is carried out. This is to help detect any abnormalities or future changes to the breast tissue following the procedure. It should be noted that breast reduction surgery does not increase one’s risk of developing breast cancer. Apart from preoperative instructions, additional post-operative instructions and guidelines will also be provided to ensure a safe and healthy recovery after the breast reduction procedure.
